I'll start off with one of my favorite writers - Chris Owen from the Torquere Press stable..

Secrets Given, by Chris Owen - Torquere Press - 25 pages short story -
As most of ya'll know, I'm not a big fan of these short stories - But this one I couldnt' resist - and I did enjoy it. My biggest complaint of course.. is that it's too short.. *laugh* so if you like short ones, stories that is.. you'll like this...

Publisher blurb:
Kris hates the world of high fashion photography. Hates it enough that he doesn't care that his career there is ending. When his last photo session for a jewelry company ends with a pair of shiny red pants, a young man he can't get out of his mind, and a picture he'll never forget, Kris knows it's time to make a new start in his life.
Lane's not a model. He's just a guy who looked good in the shiny vinyl pants, but he can't forget Kris, either. When they get a chance to see each other again, Lane is determined that he won't turn Kris down this time. In fact, Lane is determined to help Kris start over again, and learn all of Kris' secrets. Can they figure out how to share their lives?

The other short story was another one from Torquere Press -
Tart and Soul, by Storm Grant - Torquere Press 34 pages -

This one started off really odd - until you realize that the guy is having flash back, a symptom of PTS and an odd allergy he came back with after his time on active duty with the Marines. For a short one, I liked this -

Publisher's Blurb:
Ex-Marine Cam isn't sure what to do with himself when he comes back to his mom's place. Especially since his mom is the madam of a brothel called Tuesday's Child. He's desperate to pay his debt to her, too, which is how he meets Joshua, a grad student who needs money in the worst way.
Joshua thinks he doesn't need what Cam has to offer, but soon enough, he changes his tune. Nasty pimps, atypical allergies, and a decorating scheme gone horribly wrong work together to bring Cam and Joshua closer and closer. Can they work together to find a whole new definition of monogamy?

From Amber Quill Press I read a pretty cool supernatural novella - with some hot cover art.
Light My Fire, by Lee Avalone 67 pages
This was a very nice read - that had some of my favorite things - Cowboys, Cops, Supernatural, and a underdog who breaks out of his past. And of course.. the sex is HOT and used to help the story/plot along, not overwhelm it.

Publisher's Blurb:
When Lieutenant Craig Faulk of the CDDC—Chicago Department of Demon Control—is called to a routine demon attack, he doesn’t expect to find the victim alive. They never live long enough to speak. But handsome Steven Richter defies all odds. How and why has this self-proclaimed loser survived a demon attack when others much stronger have died?
Steven knows he’s not good enough for a man like Craig, but that doesn’t stop him from dreaming. It’s easy to fall for a rugged, cowboy demon-hunter in the mean streets of urban Chicago, one who’s risked his life to save Steven. But Craig saves lives while Steven sells his body to make ends meet, and no way could anything come of the attraction both of them experience in each other’s presence.
Or could it?
When Steven meets life’s greatest challenge, he discovers for the first time that he has true value as an openly gay man. But will it be enough to erase his checkered past and win the heart of a demon-hunting cowboy?

Now for the hard one -
Welcome to Beaconsfield, by DJ Manly - 255 pages from www.extasybooks.net
This book was tough to read. Why? do you ask... Because it delves into the disgusting world of child abuse - The author took on a very sensative and taboo subject with respect. This story reminded me a great deal of the movie "Sleepers" That too was hard to watch - This is the story of a good cop and a just barely legal inmate at a juvenile facility. If you're real sensative - than this might not be for you.. But if you really like a good love/romance story - than give this a try.

Publisher's Blurb:
Gian was a victim of sexual abuse as a boy at the hands of his uncle. Luckily, he was taken in by a police captain. Years later, Gian himself becomes a cop, and when he is informed about the sexual abuse taking place at a detention center called Beaconsfield, he is determined to make the abusers pay for their crimes.
Cory is over eighteen, and therefore should no longer be at Beaconsfield. However, there are no transition houses available. A victim of abuse at the hands of the guards, he does his best to protect a young boy from their vicious atrocities. Paralyzed by fear, and sure that no one cares, he keeps silent.
Gian finally gets permission to go undercover at Beaconsfield. Forced to walk the fine line between protecting the residents and securing the evidence he needs to convict the abusers, Gian’s life suddenly becomes a nightmare. There isn't anything he won’t do to protect those at the mercy of the guards…not to mention, that Cory seems to falling in love with him.

I loved Secrets Given! Good rec.
yep, me too - the others were good too - the Beaconfield was a different kind of read though - had to be in the right frame of mind
Nicely done reviews. :)
I'm a Chris Owen fan anyway so that would be on my TBR list anyway. I wasn't familiar with the others though. They look very interesting.
Chris was the first I read from Torquere - she had me from the first sweaty/muddy/rainy fight scene
Ah, memories of "Bareback". 911 was my first I think.
(laugh) that would be my #2 - I bought a bunch of "gay erotic" books from a seller on EBay, of all places.. Chris' just happened to be one of them.. think I got like 10 books for 4 bucks or something -

Then I saw their postcard - and found " Cowboy UP" made the mistake of buying the Ebook from Amazon - Then I went to Torquere and bought 911
10 books for $4!!! Bet they reamed you on the shipping, though :(

I don't remember which book first brought me to TQ. Must have bought something on AllRomanceeBooks, looked up the publisher and discovered I'd hit paydirt. I don't even want to think about all the $ I spent here before I started occupying myself with writing the stuff instead of reading so much ;P
they were used books - most were really badly written too - (laugh) before those.. I was into Slash Fan Fiction - big Spike/Angel fan - then ASJ fan -

I dabbled with writing - but found I"m a much better reader, than writer...
I'm so ignorant I'd never even heard of slash before I started writing and checking out the blogs and yahoo groups and had to figure out what people were talking about. Sad, isn't it?

The jury is still out for my writing vs. reading. At least stuff is getting accepted. We'll see how it sells over time.

Totally unrelated aside: My daughter just came upstairs to tell me that 17yo son is downstairs with a friend downing shots of lemon juice. Wierdos. I guess there are worse things that could be going on.
Thank you for saying kind things about my wee story. It was my first published anything ever. 8-)

I'm so very glad you liked it.
